1. The various interpretations of Bolero are fascinating. My favorite is Benny Goodman: his version is only about 3 minutes long, but it's terrific. Great value, both as simply popular music to enjoy and also as an education in how style and arrangement impact a piece of music. So it was a clever and witty idea of RCA to issue this collection /5(13).

2. There are 3 "standard" renditions of Bolero, plus 7 alternate arrangements, many from nearly seventy years ago. Among the alternates are a percussion version, two versions for piano, a 4/4 Foxtrot version (!), a Tomita synthesizer version, and a short orchestral one. Be prepared to hear several recordings copied from 78 rpm records/5(69).

4. Boléro is a set of 18 variations on an original two-part theme—or perhaps, more properly speaking, 18 orchestrations of that theme, for the theme itself does not change, though the instruments do. After an opening rhythm on the snare drum (a rhythm that continues unabated throughout the work), the piece proceeds as follows.
